Since 1969, Jean-Claude Moulin
was been in the foreground of French road-racing. In 1968 he created with
his friend Begnatborde and Boudet brothers " Les courses de café "
and " Le Tour de Mende " races for everyone, both men and women , inviting
international as well local runners. On December 25th 1972, the four friends met together on Marvejols esplanade in ordre to race to Mende. After eating Christmas turkey they succeeded in digesting the " Cote de Goudart ", the stone slope of Valcroze, and the zigzag road of Chabrits. They had found the perfect course, it would run trough the picturesque roads of Lozere. Jean-Claude Moulin and his friends finally decided to set up the Marvejols-Mende half marathon. It would take place in the Summer and it would be a very friendly race opened to all race lovers. But should this race be created ? It would be necessary to change the rules. |
| On July 22nd 1973 : Starting under a blazing sun, 153 race lovers create the legend. |

Murat Rene (1 h 21) and
Seigneuric Denise (2 h 07) were the first
winners. Year after year the organisers found themselves with a higher number of participants. In 1978 the Scot Jim Mouat won and gave the Marvejols-Mende race International recognition. Dominique Chauvelier became the record holder of the race, winning it five times. The record has been beaten quite a lot. Kimayo (Kenya) presently holds it with 1h11mn46s during the 25th edition. |

| This race is one of the best French races registered in the international timetable. The most famous world runners are present every year beside the popular and anonymous runners. They come for the race but overall for the " Spirit of the Race " and every year the winter round takes place. This year on January 2nd 2000 fifty enthusiastic road runners meat to start the new year together. |
